Australia is like England in terms of safety. Dont be fooled by the sunshine and hot men!! Keep your wits about you just as you would at home! OH AND NEVER HITCH-HIKE! You might find a nasty way to see the bush!!!
You may not want to stay in the King's Cross area of Sydney for your mum's sake. Bit like London's King's Cross in days of yore. I wandered around there at night on my own just to see what it was like and it's not somewhere your mum would rest easy at night knowing you were there - sex shops, prostitutes on crack (this woman walking alongside me was well off her face and pants hanging off her arse!)... I didnt encounter any hassle though. its OK but not *safe*. Sure lots of people can recommend good places to stay... I stayed in Central Sydney but most people I met were staying in Coogee or Bondi and having a great time. Also, as you are there to work you're gonna meet a lot of people like yourself. I was a bit older than the WWOOFing brigade so did my own thing but as you'll all be in the same boat you'll probably help each other out! I mention Sydney but anywhere up the east coast is fine. The Greyhound is fine to travel on and the nightbuses are safe. Again, keep your wits about you and keep your money safe. Not like the US Greyhound which all the weirdos travel on. Cant speak for Perth... someone else will have to help you out there... Last edited by pixiedoux : 16-02-2007 at 01:00 PM. |

Hi Jess,
I travelled to Australia on my own in october and had the best time ever.I went up the east coast as far as cairns and down to melbourne. I would say its pretty safe,You'll meet loads of people that are doing the same thing. I am going back to work there at the end of july so i will also be there for christmas and new year.Planning on spending it in Sydney-I cant wait!! |
