Default Trekking through Brazil and the Amazon (July 2008)

I am planning on taking a trip in the very near future to Trek through Brazil and the Amazon. My initial intent was to go alone but since it is always safer (and often more enjoyable) to go with others, I thought that I would put out feelers for a travel partner.

My current plans are to fly into São Paulo, travel to Florianópolis (there are some exquisite sites I want to see there) and take a bus down to Sombrio (where I would plan on spending a couple of weeks with extended family to help adjust to understanding and speaking Brazilian Portuguese). From there I plan to travel to Foz do Iguaçu (to see the Iguassu Falls) and then north to Porto Velho to enter the Amazon. From Porto Velho I plan to travel to Manaus through to Santarém and Belém (preferably by water) and then head south to Goiania to stay with friends before possibly heading towards Salvador. The specifics have not all been worked out and are open to adjustments but I believe that this will provide a thoroughly exciting adventure (just the change I need from my cubical walls).

I have already begun networking with English speaking groups throughout the country to hopefully ease any language issues and provide recommendations for the trip.

A travel partner would need to be adventurous, open minded, polite and respectable (especially if staying with family and friends) but still know how to have a good time without getting into trouble. Male or Female does not matter but you must be fit enough for rough all day traveling. Also I would prefer someone that would not get bored easily.

I hope to leave in the middle to late July and spend at least a full three months (though a travel partner would not need to spend the full amount of time) on this journey. Yellow Fever vaccination is at least recommended and may be required. While this is expected to be a low expense trip (staying in hostels or camping), I also want to make sure that anyone I bring with me can support themselves. They should also be personable and a have generally friendly and outgoing personality.

I would also be willing to consider making my way to Ecuador and Peru as well.

Feel free to post a message or contact me if you have any interest, suggestions or questions.
