Icon Biggrin Oz visa question, please help!

Hey! I'm going out to Australia in January for 7 months - a year. I'm going to work my way around. I'll have to apply for a 12 month Working Holiday Visa. Only problem is when I look at the specifications it says that you need to have proof of savings in the region of £2000. I will only be goin out with £800 to settle with, my accomodation is already sorted for the first couple of months. Can any1 tell me if I'll be able to get one? It seems weird coz I've heard about loads of people who have went out with a lot less than me. Cheers...

Just been told that you may be asked to prove that you have sufficient funds but its unlikely and if you have accomodation booked and a return flight home its very unlikely that your visa will be rejected. Cheers Mark...

Default Mark's reply

Mark replyed to the question saying:

According to the Australian Government they state that:

Financial requirements
You must have access to sufficient funds to support yourself for the initial stage of your holiday. Generally, AUD$5,000 may be regarded as sufficient, but the amount may vary depending on your length of stay and the extent of your travel. You should also have a return or onward ticket or the funds for a fare to depart Australia.
You may be asked to provide evidence. Evidence may include a certified copy of a bank statement and an air ticket out of Australia.

The key words in the statement above are “You may be asked” this is usually a random check by immigration. The fact that you do have accommodation booked will go a long way as this is one of the main expenditures whilst on your travels and as stated “the amount may very depending on your stay!”. Additionally if you do have a return ticket booked this will also help should you encounter any problems.

You will not need to have your available funds at the time of application, only upon entry. Your visa will be granted regardless of your funds so long as you meet the other requirements (obviously).

I hope this is of some use ...

Default only need funds if you on holiday, not working holiday visa

Hi
Just saw your question, and Mark has answered brilliantly.
BUT I've just completed a year in australia on a working holiday visa
(DIMA subclass417)
When I applied, the information on the DIMA website stated that you do not need to show proof of funds if you are applying for the working holiday visa (the idea is you will work, because you will be allowed to, to pay for your stay and travelling!)
Having just applied for a 12month holiday visa (subclass676) to go back (because I'm too old to extend my working holiday visa) I have just been asked for proof of funds to show that I am able to "support myself for the duration of my extended stay". They usually only asked to provide proof of funds if its just a holiday visa you're going for, and not the working holiday visa. When they do ask, They ask you by email (if you apply electronically i.e via internet) before approving your application-as they have done with me this last week! So you've got nothing to worry about! Just apply, buy a return ticket, and go for it!
you've got nothing to loose and a world of experience to gain!!
happy travelling

Default Australian Working & Tourist Visas

There are many types of Visas available for travellers to Australia. the important thing is that you have the correct one for your trip.

Each visa has its own conditions and requires different information in order to be granted. This is usually based on the applicant and though a rough guide can be given it’s always worth checking before you apply what you are likely to be asked. Regardless of who and how you apply make sure you are happy with the process and clear what’s involved. Australian visas are non-refundable and can be quite expensive, unfortunately there are many companies out there willing to take as much of your hard earned cash as they can.

If I can help out by answering your questions i would be more than happy to do so, advice should always be free!
