Im thinking of getting a flight over there from sydney and staying for 3 weeks dose anyone know if there is cheap accomadation there?? or is it all expensive??

Hi, I'm just back yesterday after a fun three months and it's a beautiful place to live but I'm not sure about what you would call cheap. There's a hostle in Waikiki near to Starbucks (cool people hang out there and would help you) and the hostel in Pupukea is nice and has just gone up to $30 a night.

I was working for my bed and board in Pupukea and made friends with folk actually when hitch-hiking (safe and acceptable to do on the North Shore) and we slept on the beaches and parks. I know it sounds maybe a bit mad but it was great- I even missed my flight for an extra day

(ok, got drunk and fell asleep in the park!).

If you are heading there please contact me and I can give you names or trustworthy (and not so trustworthy) people and maybe help with more.

If you go to Maui the east of the island is the driest and we slept on the beach there too but were woken in the night by the whales passing by, so didn't exactly complain!
