Hi sam, i came up to iceland last summer and have been around the country, beautiful place, main thing i'd suggest is not just stick to the capital and surrounding areas, go to akureyri (north) myvant and ástbyrgi(east) and the glacier lake in the south.

Remember that everything is iceland is extremly expensive even on a backpackers budget, best thing to do is bring a tent, alot of small towns offer free campsites and its only 500 isk to camp a night in the citys plus the summer isn't very cold.

any questions just hesitate to ask

I have never been to a place like Iceland before, with such extremes in landscape. One of the bizarre things you will see when you first fly into Iceland and travel from the airport is the lava fields. Lava fields cover around 11% of the country, and although not pretty I found them intriguing. Mostly ugly and grey, some sections we saw were covered in a green moss-like vegetation, whilst other places had small purple flowers in between the lumps of lava. It is really strange to see houses sitting in the middle of a lava field. Or how about a game of golf - there is a golf course made on a lava field, located between the airport and Reykjavik!!
