Can anyone offer any information on independent backpacking in Kenya? Is it safe to travel without an organised tour group? And if so, is public transport easy to come by?

I have just returned from Kenya after two weeks. I saw quite a few backpackers in Nairobi. Talking of safety, how many places on this planet one can say is safe. Main thing to remember is to observe usual caution and keep away from poor, seedy areas and not venture after darkness alone and keep away from people trying to become too friendly and over enthusiastic to help. These apply to big cities. Bush and safari parks are very safe.

I can only tell you I know of Moutain climbing and Camping holidays. that my best bet try some agents website is www.onsafaris.com they may have an idea
